Heat Pump Service, Repair & Replacement

A heat pump cools in summer and heats in winter with one outdoor unit. In our mild-winter climate it's an efficient choice for many homes. We service, repair and replace heat pump systems.

How a heat pump works

In summer a heat pump works just like an air conditioner. In winter a reversing valve runs the refrigerant the other way, pulling heat from outdoor air and moving it inside. On the coldest mornings, backup electric heat strips help out.

Common heat pump problems

Note: it's normal for a heat pump to go into defrost now and then on cold, damp days. You may see steam rise from the outdoor unit for a few minutes. A unit that stays encased in ice is not normal.

Is a heat pump right for you?

When an older AC and electric-heat system is due for replacement, a heat pump is often worth a look, especially in homes without natural gas. We'll go over the options for your home, including newer equipment that is rated under the SEER2 and HSPF2 efficiency standards.

Frequently asked questions

Do heat pumps work during Texas cold snaps?

Yes, with help. As outdoor temperatures drop, a heat pump becomes less efficient and backup heat strips take on more of the load. Newer models handle cold better than older ones.

Why is steam coming from my heat pump in winter?

That's usually the defrost cycle melting frost off the outdoor coil, which is normal. A unit that stays iced over is not.

Can you service the heat pump I already have?

Yes. We repair and maintain existing heat pump systems.
