San Marcos AC & Heating Repair
Air Care Today has worked on heating, air conditioning and refrigeration in San Marcos for more than 25 years. We know the city's mix of older and newer homes, student rentals and local businesses, and we know what a Hays County summer does to an air conditioner.
Getting to San Marcos
San Marcos is home base, so most San Marcos addresses are a short drive away, from neighborhoods near Texas State and downtown to newer areas off Wonder World Drive, Hunter Road and Centerpoint Road.
San Marcos homes and HVAC
San Marcos has some of the most varied housing on the I-35 corridor. Older homes in and around the historic districts near downtown often have small duct runs, limited attic space and systems that have been replaced piecemeal over the years. Around Texas State University there are many apartments, duplexes and rental houses, where systems run hard and filters don't always get changed. Newer subdivisions such as Blanco Vista, Trace and Kissing Tree have builder-installed systems, many now reaching the age where capacitors, motors and coils start to wear out.
Climate and local conditions
San Marcos sits where the Hill Country meets the Blackland Prairie. Summers are long, hot and humid, and the humidity matters as much as the heat. A system that's oversized, low on refrigerant or moving too little air may cool the house but leave it feeling sticky. Winters are mild, but the occasional hard freeze, like the February 2021 winter storm, is a reminder to keep the heating side in shape too.
Tips for San Marcos homeowners and businesses
- Change filters more often in rentals and homes with several occupants or pets.
- Older homes near downtown can benefit from a duct check before a system replacement.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of grass clippings and cottonwood fluff in spring.

San Marcos HVAC questions
Where is Air Care Today located?

My AC runs all afternoon on 100-degree days. Is that normal?
On the hottest days, a properly sized system may run almost nonstop and still let the house warm up a few degrees by late afternoon. If it can't keep the house within reasonable range, or the air from the vents isn't much cooler than the room, have it checked.
